Twelve Little Teardrops

one wants to waterfall to the Serengeti
one needs to change from turquoise to indigo
one hopscotches from river rock to skyscraper
one knows the undertow like a handprint
        branding the pink surface of a left cheek
one rests on a ski slope in summer
one screams to move to Madison Avenue
        where the better tears live
one falls on a candle flame
one so full of sugar and salt, it’s a cannibal
one crouches on the brush of a mascara wand
one infested with chocolate smudges
one looks at everyone but me
the last one left unfulfilled on a cold pillow of hope
